Gonzalo Vargas
Last wednesday a 70 year old Chilean man named Gonazalo Vargas came to our school and held a leisure. Gonzalo, who works for Amnesty international, told us about how he was imprisoned and tortured for two years.
He told he us about how he were arrested and beat for his political views, afterwards taken to a prison where the torture began. He were tortured for 2 years, his entire family were tortured aswell. His sisters and sister in law were raped and one of them even got pregnant. He got a letter from his cousin after two years where he was told that she had contacted amnesty international and he should not lose hope, he would soon be free. "Words about immigration"
The difference between a REFUGEE and a FUGITIVE
By definition they are
FUGITIVE- a person who is fleeing, from prosecution, intolerable circumstances, etc.; a runaway:
A refugee is someone that leaves the place that they live because it is unsafe or unhealthy for them to be there. Maybe there is a war or no clean water or food.
A fugitive is someone that is running away or leaving because they are in trouble. Maybe if they did something bad and are going to be arrested they will try and leave and hide. That makes them a fugitive.
"Reflections to the movie"
I think it is very cool that you guys have seen many different short films from different perspectives. I think sometimes you need different perspectives to understand something or to make your own opinion.
Even though someone lives in Denmark, if their parents are a different religion they might be to (Muslim in this case) because that is how they are raised.
I watched a movie in my class called When An Arab Comes to Town and it is about "non-ethic" Danes and about if they feel Danish or not. They also speak about their religion too and whether they wear a head scarf or not and why. It was a very interesting film!
"Role Models about Integration"
These two speakers remind me once again of When An Arab Comes to Town. I think that it is upsetting that "non-ethnic" Danes do not feel safe or at home at a school that is mostly Danish students. Although people come from different backgrounds I think it is important to be accepting and understanding of where they come from. That way they can feel accepted into Danish society even though they have a different background or wear the headscarf.
Danish and American culture are also very different. I would be happy to explain the main ones if you would like? I look forward to hearing back from you!
I would like to know what you think about immigrants and non ethnic danes not feeling comfortable or fitting in in Danish schools?
